Prevent outdoor spigots from freezing by disconnecting and draining all hoses before the first freeze, installing frost-free hose bibs that have a long valve stem reaching back into a warm wall, adding insulated faucet covers for extra protection, and shutting off the interior shutoff valve to outdoor spigots if your home has one.
Winter prep checklist
- Disconnect and drain garden hoses by mid-October
- Open spigots to drain trapped water
- Add insulated foam faucet covers
- Close interior shutoff valves to outdoor spigots if available
- Replace standard hose bibs with frost-free models
We install frost-free spigots through our pipes and lines service.
