An AFCI outlet is an arc-fault circuit interrupter — a special outlet (or breaker) that detects dangerous electrical arcs from damaged wires, loose connections, or worn cords, and shuts off power before the arc can cause a fire. Modern code requires AFCI protection on most living-area circuits in homes.
What AFCI does
- Detects dangerous electrical arcs
- Distinguishes between normal arcs (motors) and dangerous ones
- Shuts off power within milliseconds
- Prevents fires from damaged wiring
- Required by code in bedrooms, living areas, kitchens, hallways
We install AFCI protection through our outlets and switches service.
