In many cases, a broken sewer line can be repaired without traditional excavation thanks to modern trenchless sewer repair technology. These methods allow plumbers to fix underground sewer lines while preserving landscaping, sidewalks, and driveways.
The process typically begins with a sewer camera inspection, which allows a professional to see the condition of the pipe from the inside and determine the best repair approach. Depending on the extent of the damage, one of two trenchless methods may be recommended:
Trenchless sewer repair is often faster, less disruptive, and more cost-effective than traditional excavation, but it isn’t the right solution in every situation. Severely collapsed pipes or complex sewer layouts may still require conventional repair methods.
For homeowners in Spokane and Northern Idaho, Mainstream Electric, Heating, Cooling & Plumbing starts with accurate diagnostics and recommends the least invasive option whenever possible. With advanced inspection tools and experienced technicians, Mainstream focuses on long-term solutions that protect your home and property — not unnecessary digging.
If we are able to detect your sewer problem before major damage occurs, trenchless sewer line repair could be the way forward!
A classic example is cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) sewer repair. This is a trenchless restoration method which involves inserting a seamless, jointless, and root-resistant lining inside an existing sewer line.
The lining, which contains resin, is exposed to a curing element which allows it to adhere to the inner walls of your sewer line. Voila! Once fully cured, you have a brand new pipeline.
It is worth noting that CIPP is EPA Certified and has no negative impact on the environment.
If, however, our analysis renders CIPP sewer repair impossible, there’s no need to despair. We have other non-invasive procedures at our disposal. Pipe bursting is a great alternative if portions of your sewer line have collapsed or are otherwise unable to accept a new lining.
This trenchless sewer replacement method is as satisfying and simple as its name suggests. Two holes are dug at both ends of the line. A steel expander head is then dragged through the existing pipe. Its slightly larger diameter allows it to shatter the old pipe and push its pieces into the soil as it’s traveling. A new replacement pipe follows closely behind and takes the spot of the old. The new sewer line is then simply reconnected at both ends and is ready for use.
Our state of the art equipment can pull pipe through the ground at a maximum working force of 60,000 psi.

Mainstream Electric, Heating, Cooling, & Plumbing offers a modern solution: trenchless sewer repair. Trenchless sewer repair, also known as no-dig sewer repair, is a minimally invasive method for fixing damaged or broken sewer lines. Instead of digging up your entire yard to access the pipe, we use specialized equipment to repair or replace the line from within, leaving your landscaping virtually untouched.
There are two main types of trenchless sewer repair:
Both methods are highly effective and can be completed in a fraction of the time compared to traditional excavation methods.
Trenchless sewer repair is a suitable solution for a variety of sewer line problems, including:
In addition to the convenience and minimal disruption, trenchless sewer repair can also be a more cost-effective solution compared to traditional excavation methods. By avoiding the need for extensive digging, you can save on labor costs, landscaping restoration expenses, and potential damage to other underground utilities. Mainstream can provide you with a detailed estimate for your trenchless sewer repair project, outlining the costs and potential savings compared to traditional methods.
