A water service line is the underground pipe that brings drinking water from the city main (or your well) into your home. It typically runs from the meter at the property line, under your yard, and into the home — usually entering through the basement or crawlspace at the main shutoff valve.
Where it runs
- Starts at the city water meter or well
- Runs underground across your yard
- Enters the home at a wall penetration
- Terminates at the main shutoff valve inside
- Then connects to your home’s internal plumbing
Water service lines are the homeowner’s responsibility from the meter inward. Repairs are handled through our water line repair service.
