What's the difference between a heat pump and an air conditioner?

What is a dual-fuel system?
A heat pump paired with a gas furnace. The system runs the heat pump whenever it’s the cheaper heat source — most of the season — and automatically switches to gas on the coldest days. It’s a popular setup for homes that already have natural gas.
What rebates and tax credits are available?
Avista offers heat pump rebates of up to $1,200 for qualifying systems, and federal Inflation Reduction Act tax credits provide 30% (up to $2,000) on heat pump installations. We confirm eligibility before you commit and handle the rebate paperwork for you.
How long does a heat pump last?
About 15 years in our climate with regular twice-a-year maintenance. Every system we install includes a 10–12 year manufacturer parts warranty (registration handled by us) plus a 2-year Mainstream labor warranty. Care Club members get extended labor coverage and priority service.
