Water Quality

Cleaner, softer water — only when the testing supports it.

Spokane and Coeur d’Alene water sources vary a lot — some neighborhoods have hard water that scales every fixture in the house, others have well water with sediment, iron, or sulfur issues, and a few areas have great water that needs nothing at all. We test first, recommend second.

When equipment is the right answer, we install only systems with documented performance — whole-home media filters, ion-exchange softeners, reverse-osmosis drinking water, and chlorine/chloramine removal. Same flat-rate quote and warranty as the rest of our work.

  • Licensed plumbers Washington & Idaho licensed, bonded, and insured — never sub-contracted.
  • Stocked trucks Pipe, fittings, fixtures, and diagnostics on board — one-trip repairs.
  • Flat-rate quotes Approved before any work — never charged by the hour.
  • Warrantied work 1-year labor warranty plus full manufacturer parts coverage.

Symptom Check

Signs your water needs treatment

Some of these are obvious; others are subtle. Most are easy to test for.

  • White scale on fixtures

Hard water leaves calcium and magnesium deposits on faucets, showers, and heater elements.

  • Soap won't lather

Classic hard-water symptom — soap reacts with minerals instead of cleaning.

  • Stiff or stained laundry

Minerals in the water stain clothes and wear out fabric faster.

  • Cloudy or discolored water

Sediment, iron, or air entrainment — water testing identifies the specific cause.

  • Bad taste or odor

Chlorine, sulfur, or organics — different treatments for different sources.

  • Short water heater life

Hard water reduces water heater life by 30–50% — softening pays back in equipment longevity.

What We Install

Water treatment equipment that actually works

Tested first, sized properly, installed and serviced by licensed plumbers.

  • Water testing Hardness, iron, pH, TDS, chlorine, and lab analysis for well-water customers.
  • Water softeners Ion-exchange softeners for whole-home scale removal — sized to your water and household use.
  • Whole-home filtration Sediment, carbon, KDF, and specialty filters for taste, odor, and contaminant removal.
  • RO drinking water Under-sink reverse-osmosis systems for premium drinking and cooking water.
  • UV sterilization UV-C units for well water — kills bacteria and microorganisms.
  • Iron & sulfur removal Greensand and oxidizing systems for well water with high iron or sulfur content.
  • Service & maintenance Filter changes, resin replacement, and annual system checkups.
  • Performance verification Post-install testing so you can see the measured improvement.

Water Quality — Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need a softener?

Depends on your water. Spokane city water averages 8–10 grains hardness (moderately hard) — most homes benefit from softening, especially if water heater scale is a concern. Coeur d’Alene varies. Well-water customers can be anywhere from very soft to extremely hard. We test before recommending.

What's the difference between a softener and a filter?

A softener removes calcium and magnesium (the minerals that cause scale). A filter removes sediment, chlorine, organics, or contaminants. Many homes benefit from both — softener + carbon filter is a common combo. We size each independently based on your water test.

Is RO drinking water better than tap?

RO removes essentially all dissolved solids, so the water is very pure. Most customers install it for taste and for filling fish tanks, espresso machines, or for cooking. If your tap water is already good, RO is optional. If it’s heavily chlorinated or has high TDS, RO is a big upgrade.

How often do filters need replacement?

Depends on the system and your water. Sediment filters typically last 3–6 months. Carbon filters last 6–12 months. RO membranes last 2–5 years. Softener resin can last 10+ years with proper salt. We can set up a service schedule.

Will it lower my water bill?

Softening doesn’t reduce water usage directly, but it dramatically extends water heater and appliance life — which is where most homeowners see net savings. Filtration doesn’t affect bills. Honest expectation-setting up front.

Is the work warrantied?

Every install includes a 1-year Mainstream labor warranty plus the manufacturer warranty (typically 5–10 years on tanks, 3–10 years on valves). Care Club members get extended labor coverage.
