A pressure-vacuum breaker (PVB) is a backflow-prevention device that protects the drinking water supply from contamination. It’s most commonly installed on lawn irrigation systems and certain commercial applications where there’s a risk that non-potable water could be siphoned back into the main if water pressure drops.
Where you’ll see a PVB
- Lawn irrigation systems (most common)
- Some pool fill lines
- Commercial cooling towers and equipment
- Outdoor hose-bib connections in certain jurisdictions
If your home has irrigation, the PVB is typically the silver or brass cylinder at the highest point of the irrigation line, above any sprinkler head. We install, test, and replace PVBs through PVB service and full backflow prevention.
