A high-pressure water pump works by using a motor-driven impeller to add energy to the water as it passes through, raising its pressure on the outlet side. A pressure tank stores some pressurized water so the pump doesn’t have to run every time you open a faucet, and a pressure switch turns the pump on and off based on system demand.
The main parts
- Motor and impeller — adds energy to the water
- Inlet and outlet check valves — keep water flowing one direction
- Pressure tank — stores pressurized water
- Pressure switch — controls the on/off cycle
- Gauge — lets you read system pressure
We install, service, and replace pressure pumps for homes with low city or well pressure. See water pressure service for full details.
