A sub-panel is a smaller electrical panel fed from your main panel, used to distribute power to a specific area like a garage, detached shop, addition, or basement. You probably have a sub-panel if there’s a second smaller breaker panel anywhere in your home — often in a garage, basement, or near an addition.

How to spot a sub-panel

  • Smaller panel located away from the main service panel
  • Often labeled with a single “main” breaker matching a feeder at the primary panel
  • Common in detached garages, shops, finished basements, and additions
  • Has its own breakers serving local circuits

Sub-panels are a great way to add capacity without replacing the main panel. We install and service them through electrical panel service, shed and outbuilding wiring, and remodel electrical.
