UV air filters installed inside HVAC equipment are safe in residential settings because the UV-C light is fully contained within the metal duct or air handler — you never see it or get exposed to it. UV-C only becomes a health risk with direct skin or eye exposure, which is impossible with a properly installed in-duct system.
Safety facts
- UV-C is fully shielded inside metal ductwork
- No direct exposure during normal operation
- Turn off power before any service on the unit
- Avoid in-room “UV air purifiers” that emit UV-C openly
- Whole-home systems are the safest UV option
We install only safe, in-duct UV systems through our indoor air quality service.
