The main furnace types are natural gas, propane, electric, and oil. Within each fuel category there are single-stage, two-stage, and modulating (variable-output) models, as well as high-efficiency condensing furnaces that recapture exhaust heat. Most Spokane-area homes use single- or two-stage natural gas furnaces.
