Whether your home has enough electrical capacity to charge an EV depends on your service amperage (typically 100, 150, or 200), how loaded your panel already is, and the amperage of the charger you want. Many homes can add a 40A EV circuit without an upgrade; some need a panel upgrade or load-management device to handle the new load safely.

How to know

  • Check service amperage at the meter
  • Count available breaker slots
  • Run a load calculation against existing usage
  • Compare available capacity to EV charger amps
  • Consider load-management for tight panels
  • Plan a panel upgrade if needed

We do the load calculation as part of every EV charging install. Panel upgrades handled if needed.
