Water heaters should be professionally serviced once a year. Tank-style heaters need annual flushing for sediment; tankless heaters need annual descaling. Both benefit from a yearly safety check of the T&P valve, anode rod (tank), gas valve (gas), or heating elements (electric).
Annual service intervals
- Tank flush — yearly
- Anode rod inspection — yearly
- T&P relief valve test — yearly
- Tankless descale — yearly
- Burner/element check — yearly
- Sediment check more often if you have hard water
Bundle annual service with HVAC and plumbing tune-ups through the Mainstream Maintenance Plan, or book individually via water heater maintenance.
