An AFCI (arc-fault circuit interrupter) breaker is a special breaker that detects dangerous electrical arcs — like those caused by damaged wire insulation, loose connections, or pinched cords — and shuts off the circuit before the arc can cause a fire. AFCI protection is required by modern code on most living-area circuits.

Where AFCI is required

  • Bedrooms (long-standing requirement)
  • Living rooms, family rooms, dens
  • Kitchens
  • Hallways, closets, and most habitable spaces
  • Many basements and laundry areas

AFCI breakers are one of the most important fire-safety upgrades in any home. We install AFCI protection during circuit breaker service, panel upgrades, and remodel work.
