In most homes, the air handler is located in a utility closet, basement, garage, attic, or large mechanical room — typically central to the home so ductwork can be distributed evenly to each room. The outdoor condenser and the indoor air handler are connected by a refrigerant line set running through the wall or ceiling.

Common locations

  • Mechanical closet on the main level
  • Basement near the furnace
  • Attic, on a platform
  • Garage
  • Crawlspace (less common, harder to service)

Knowing where your air handler lives makes future service easier and keeps you safe if a problem develops. Schedule routine service through our air handler service, or full AC maintenance.
