Indoor Air Quality

Cleaner air, healthier home — without the gimmicks.

The EPA ranks indoor air pollution among the top five environmental health risks — and most homes in the Inland Northwest are full of allergens, dust, wildfire smoke residue, VOCs, mold spores, and dry-air symptoms in winter. We treat root causes, not symptoms: better filtration, UV-light disinfection at the coil, balanced humidity, and proper ventilation.

Every IAQ project starts with an honest assessment of your home — we don’t sell upgrades you don’t need, and we’ll tell you when a filter swap solves the problem. When equipment is the answer, we install only systems with measured, documented performance — no air-purifier gimmicks.

  • Whole-home filtration Media filters, electronic filters, and HEPA — sized for your existing system.
  • UV & air purification UV-C lights at the coil and air-cell PCO systems — measured performance only.
  • Humidity control Whole-home humidifiers for dry winters, dehumidifiers for muggy summer weeks.
  • Fresh-air ventilation ERVs and HRVs bring filtered outdoor air in without losing conditioned air.

When to Call

Signs your indoor air needs attention

Most of these are dismissed as "just the season" — but they're solvable with the right equipment and a properly tuned HVAC system.

  • Persistent dust

Dusting more than weekly usually means leaky return ducts pulling unfiltered air into the system.

  • Dry skin, cracked lips, static

Winter humidity below 30% damages skin, wood floors, and instruments — and feels colder than it is.

  • Condensation on windows

Excess humidity in winter — usually 50%+ indoors when outside is below freezing.

  • Smoke from wildfires

Wildfire smoke makes it inside — even with windows shut. Real filtration solves it.

  • Allergy or asthma symptoms

Worse indoors than out usually means dust, pet dander, or mold in the air handler or ducts.

  • Musty or chemical smells

Mold in the air handler, VOC off-gassing from new materials, or sewer-gas escape from a dry trap.

What We Install

IAQ equipment that actually works

No magic-box air purifiers. Just equipment with measured, documented performance — installed and integrated properly with your existing system.

  • Media air filters 4-inch and 5-inch MERV 13–16 media filters — better than any 1" filter at any rating.
  • UV-C light at the coil Disinfects the evaporator coil, blower, and condensate drain — eliminates mold and bacteria.
  • Electronic air cleaners Electrostatic precipitators capture sub-micron particles that media filters miss.
  • Whole-home humidifiers Steam, fan-powered, and bypass humidifiers tied to your supply duct.
  • Whole-home dehumidifiers Ducted dehumidifiers for muggy summer weeks and persistent basement humidity.
  • ERV / HRV ventilation Energy recovery ventilators bring fresh air in without losing conditioned air.
  • Duct cleaning NADCA-method duct cleaning when warranted — we tell you honestly if it isn't.
  • Air-quality testing Particulate, VOC, humidity, and CO testing with documented results before/after.

How It Works

Our IAQ assessment process

Measure first, recommend second. We don't sell IAQ equipment without showing you the readings.

  1. Call & schedule

Speak to a real dispatcher 24/7. Assessments typically scheduled within 24–48 hours.

  2. Inspect & measure

Visual inspection of ducts, blower, coil, and filter housing — plus humidity and particulate readings.

  3. Quote the options

Targeted recommendations with measured baseline numbers — flat-rate quotes, no pressure.

  4. Install & verify

Most projects done in 1–2 days. We re-measure after install so you can see the improvement.

Indoor Air Quality — Frequently Asked Questions

Do air purifiers actually work?

Some do, most don’t. Standalone room purifiers with HEPA filters work for a single room. Most ‘whole-home’ purification add-ons sold by HVAC companies don’t have independent performance data. We only install IAQ equipment with documented, measured performance — media filtration, UV-C, ERV/HRV, and properly sized humidifiers.

What's the right humidity for my home?

30–50% relative humidity year-round. Most Spokane and Coeur d’Alene homes drop to 10–20% in winter (too dry) and climb to 60%+ during muggy summer weeks (too humid). Whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers solve both seasons — and they’re cheaper than fighting symptoms.

Will a UV light at the coil help?

Yes — UV-C lights installed at the evaporator coil eliminate the mold and bacteria that grow in the condensate moisture there. They don’t sanitize the room air (the airflow contact time is too short for that), but they keep the air handler itself clean — which has real downstream benefits for everyone breathing the air.

Do I need duct cleaning?

Usually no. Most ducts don’t accumulate enough debris to justify cleaning. The EPA only recommends it when there’s visible mold, vermin infestation, or significant dust release from registers. We’ll inspect with a camera and tell you honestly whether cleaning is warranted — we don’t upsell what you don’t need.

What about wildfire smoke?

A MERV 13 or higher media filter on your existing HVAC system filters PM2.5 smoke particles effectively. We can also install standalone HEPA units for the worst smoke days. Closing windows and running the AC fan on continuous is the cheapest first-step solution — equipment upgrades come next if that’s not enough.

Is the work warrantied?

Every install includes a 1-year Mainstream labor warranty plus the full manufacturer parts warranty (typically 1–10 years depending on equipment). Care Club members get extended labor coverage and priority service.
