How often should I tune up my water heater?
Once a year for tank units, once a year for tankless (descaling). If you have hard water (most of Spokane and Coeur d’Alene), the annual schedule is especially important — sediment and scale accelerate failure dramatically.
Will a tune-up actually extend the life?
Yes — measurably. Sediment-filled tanks corrode 2–3x faster than properly maintained ones. Anode rod replacement alone can extend tank life by 3–5 years. Tankless descaling prevents heat-exchanger damage that’s a primary cause of premature tankless failure.
What's the right temperature setting?
120°F is the sweet spot — hot enough to kill bacteria, cool enough to prevent scalding, efficient enough to save on bills. We verify and adjust as part of the tune-up.
Do I need a tune-up if everything seems fine?
Yes. Water heaters that ‘seem fine’ are exactly when problems are easiest (and cheapest) to fix. A failing T&P valve gives no warning before causing a flood; sediment buildup is invisible until capacity drops. Annual service catches problems before they’re emergencies.
